Mission First!

Learn From Mission First Team

Mission First! calls Disciples to name a church-wide, shared mission focus. It’s about Disciples making a difference by putting God’s mission first. It’s also a 2-year pilot of a framework to help Disciples work in partnership to fulfill that common call. Mission First! is about new wine of the Spirit and new wineskins.

Attend the 1:30 presentation Saturday to learn about Disciples ministries in all expressions – general, regional, local and educational. Learn how to create strategies for partnering in the shared areas of mission.

Join us for Missions and Carols closing worship service Saturday at 3:30 pm, highlighting various mission work being done by churches throughout the state of Oklahoma.

What Is Regional Assembly?

Regional Assembly is the event where congregations in the Oklahoma Region gather to take care of the business of the church as well as share together in community. It occurs once every two years as defined in the Region’s constitution. This year, Regional Assembly is in Tulsa, Oklahoma and will be all about Mission.

Our theme is “Festival of Missions” and a large portion of our Assembly will be the opportunity to actually do some mission work together!

We will also have representatives from the General Church of the Disciples of Christ in the United States and Canada to share with us information about the new program “Mission First”.

What’s the Best Part?

The best part about this year’s Regional Assembly is that it will be a place for our churches to learn about and perhaps take ideas from all the amazing mission work that churches in our Region are already doing.

From quilt squares representing our church’s mission work, to videos highlighting what we are doing in our communities, it YOUR opportunity to showcase how your congregation shares the good news.

It all culminates in a Lessons and Carols style closing worship where the lessons will be people from churches throughout the Region sharing stories about their particular mission work, celebrating our missions will be the focus of the weekend!

Why Does It Matter to Me?

Because each and every church in the Oklahoma Region and furthermore, each and every member of those churches are vital towards the part of the Body of Christ that we represent here in Oklahoma.

As we as Disciples strive towards the global unity that God is calling God’s church to have, we relish these opportunities to embody that unity in our smaller geographies. The work that each of our churches are doing to better their immediate surroundings, their towns and cities, this great state in which we live, our country, and even the world is worth celebrating and sharing with the other churches in the region.

Come and make sure your voice is heard and that we are lifting up the great work your church is doing along with all of the other Disciples institutions in the Oklahoma Region!
