Oklahoma Disciples Foundation 2018 Grants Awarded

In 2017, ODF implemented a grant-making process to provide funds for Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma related programs, ministries and missions. Over the years, several permanent endowments have been established by donors or through closed church memorial funds with specific, varied purposes to provide ongoing funding to the Foundation’s grant program.

The endowments support ministries and missions for children, youth and young adults as well as provide for the education of clergy, laity and congregations on the guidance and art of spiritual giving. Endowments also provide funding to benefit healthcare ministries for seniors, church innovation and ecumenical spiritual education for students. View the endowment summaries at the link above.

The deadline for applications for 2018 Grant Funding was 5:00 p.m., February 15, 2018. The ODF grant-making committee has met, allocated the funds listed below and checks have been mailed. The grant program awards funding based on events or programs with potential to make the greatest impact. Details of the 2018 awards are outlined HERE.

Top 100 Congregations Giving to Disciples Mission Fund

CONGRATULATIONS to the SIX congregations in the Oklahoma Region who made the “Top 100 Congregations Giving to Disciples Mission Fund.” Thank you for your generosity!

  • Crown Heights Christian Church, OKC
  • First Christian Church, Edmond
  • First Christian Church, Norman
  • First Christian Church, Ponca City
  • Harvard Avenue Christian Church, Tulsa
  • Southern Hills Christian Church, Edmond

It is customary for Regions to receive monthly reports of congregational giving to Disciples Mission Fund, because that is the primary way both the General Office and regions are financially sustained. Regions receive annually the “Top 100 Givers to Disciples Mission Fund.” In 2017, every region in the United States and Canada had at least one congregation represented in this “Top 100.” In 2017, Oklahoma has six represented in the “Top 100.”

We can also celebrate that out of Oklahoma’s 149 congregations, 83 congregations give to Disciples Mission Fund through a direct gift or through Special Day offerings. No gift is too big! and no gift is too small! We are very grateful for every gift because this is the primary way that the Region of Oklahoma’s operating budget is funded so that we can provide and enrich the ministry and leadership around the region that you expect.

If your congregation would like to hear more about how Disciples Mission Fund works, please contact Pam Holt at pholt@okdisciples.org. She will come to your congregation to say first, “thank you for your ministry and giving” and secondly, to help folks understand Disciples Mission Fund and the joy of giving to our great church.

Camp Christian Cabin Fire

Camp Christian of Northeast Oklahoma is sad to share that the Howard Lodge cabin was consumed by a fire during the early hours of Good Friday morning. Thankfully, no groups were on campus at the time and no one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Please keep Camp Christian and those involved in your prayers as they look toward continuing the camping traditions that so many have grown to love.

Camp Christian is located at 275 Camp Christian Lane, Chouteau, OK 74337.
