Mission Guthrie Unites Youth in Community Service

Over 200 DOC youth and sponsors from across the state plus a Texas youth group will be participating in Mission Guthrie July 16-20th.

This year’s theme is “Here Comes the Son – Project 7:16”. They were filled with awe and praised God…God has come to help his people. Luke 7-16

They’ll pour their enthusiasm, energy and hard work into a variety of work sites. Service projects include Guthrie Public Schools (paint lockers, stripe parking lots, clean playgrounds), Guthrie City Parks cleanup, and a number of private resident projects.

Fellowship is a huge part of the mission week. Host church FCC Guthrie is rolling out the red carpet to welcome them to the community. A Community Block Party starts at 7:00 pm Saturday featuring live music, food trucks and lawn games – all are invited.

It takes a lot of food and volunteers to host an event of this size. If you have an interest in providing or handing out food, setting up, participating at a work site, or just being a part of the excitement, please contact Mission Guthrie coordinator Staci Carey (405-831-5509 carey.staci@yahoo.com) or FCC Guthrie associate pastor Karen Allen at the church (405) 282-4080 karenkallen@cox.net.

Keep up with the action!

Thank You Camp Counselors!

The Region’s summer camp program closed July 1st as Chi Rho campers and staff as well as CYF campers and staff said their final prayers together and headed out the gates of camp back into the world.

Our Region owes a BIG THANK YOU and our gratitude to the adults that volunteered this summer at a camp, and those that will volunteer at Texoma Camp and Mission Guthrie later this month.

Our brand of Christian witness is alive and well. Not sure? Come and serve as a camp counselor next summer. Our children and youth get it when we say, “There is ministry to do and gospel to be that only we can do and only we can be.”

Summer Camp Season in Session

Last week the summer camp season began with Heifer Week.  Rev. Paul Ragle (FCC Stroud) led the group this year.  Youth in grades 7-10 along with three adults spent time learning about how citizens of other countries live, by living and working in similar conditions.Heifer Week

This week Kairos Campers (grades 4-8) are enjoying the balmy summer heat at Camp Christian.  Rev. Will Smith (FCC Wagoner) and Rev. Cassie Sexton-Riggs (FCC Tulsa) are directing this week.  Please keep Kairos Camp youth and the adult volunteers in your prayers.

This Friday, Discovery Camp @ Central Christian Camp begins for its weekend run and on June 20, Junior Camp begins.  The week of June 27 is the last week of summer camp.  Chi Rho Camp @ Oakridge Camp will begin and CYF Conference @ Central Christian Camp will begin.

Visit the Families and Youth page to connect to all the opportunities and stories about the Region’s programatic ministry with Children and Youth.

Mailing Error Sent Wrong Camper Letter

Late on Friday of last week I learned that we sent Chi Rho Campers the Discovery Camper letter last week.  That is a mistake.  I’ve been in touch with our printer and mailing service which will send the Discovery Camper letter to Discovery campers this week.  Junior Camp, Chi Rho Camp, and CYF Camper letters will go out to mailboxes late this week.  If you are anxious to receive your camper letter, visit the Families and Youth webpage and you can download the letter as well as learn about the Arrival and Departure Times for all our camps.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.  Be well.  Stay centered.

Camp Directors and Counselors
This Saturday, April 16, at New Covenant Christian Church our Camp Directors and Counselors will gather for a training event.  The day includes: group building, review of the Region’s policies and procedures for Outdoor Ministry, curriculum overview, best practices, and idea sharing from the experience that our adult volunteers bring to camp.  It takes at least 100 adult volunteers each summer to staff the variety of camp experiences the Region offers.  Some camp directors are still recruiting counselors.  Email Michael if you could volunteer.  The Summer Camp team of the Commission for Children, Youth, and Young Adult Ministries has oversight for the Region’s Outdoor Ministry program.

Use this link to download the Camp Registration Guidebook.

Click here to visit the Families and Youth webpage to see the camp rates.

RYC App

No, not an App that you get from your favorite online store, but the application we use for those interested in serving on the Regional Youth Council.  Each winter the RYC opens an application process for youth that are rising juniors or seniors who would give their skills to serve the Region’s youth, and are interested in becoming better leaders.  RYC is made up of youth and adults.  Currently, there are 24 youth and adults serving on RYC.

You can download the RYC Application using this link.  If you are an adult interested in serving on RYC, please contact Rev. Michael Davison.
