Requirements to Maintain Standing
Healthy Boundaries Training
(Policy updated 3/11/24)
The Commission on Clergy establishes the policy for Healthy Boundaries training. Effective 1/1/2025 in Oklahoma, clergy are required to complete a Healthy Boundaries seminar or its equivalent every five years. The purpose of this training is to equip clergy and staff to understand the importance of healthy boundaries in ministry and to critically discern the complexities of boundaries in pastoral relationships. Important:
On October 14, 2024, the Commission on Clergy approved the following policy change: “Because of the lack of availability for Healthy Boundaries and PRAR (Pro-Reconciliation Anti-Racism) training, the Commission on Clergy has opted to waive the Healthy Boundaries and PRAR updated requirements for standing for 2025.”
PRAR Training
The Commission on Clergy voted in 2019 to require all active and retired-active clergy to attend a Pro-Reconciliation Anti-Racism (PRAR) training session for standing. Training schedules are pending.
Continuing Education
Regional Policy (Updated 10.28.14) The Commission on Clergy establishes the requirements for continuing education by all clergy seeking “active clergy standing,” in the Christian Church in Oklahoma (Disciples of Christ). Realizing that ministry takes place in a rapidly changing world, the purpose of continuing education is to strengthen ministerial leadership in both familiar and challenging new ways. So that it may be genuinely helpful, “continuing education” is to be interpreted broadly.
