The Region mourns with the family of Rev. Dr. Devon Leslie McAnally who claimed the promises of her baptism during the early evening of Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Her husband, Tim, daughters Caitlin and Meghan, and extended family welcome your prayers and memories of Devon, child, wife, mother, and minister of the Gospel as they journey through this time of grief.

Services
You are invited to share stories and support the family this Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 5:00 – 6:00 pm at University Place Christian Church, 2107 E. Broadway Ave., Enid, OK.

A Service of Remembrance & Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:00 am, at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway Ave., Enid, OK.

About Devon

Rev. Dr. Devon McAnally completed her studies for ministry at Phillips Theological Seminary earning an MDiv (2007). She was ordained into Christian Ministry July 8, 2007, by Central Christian Church and Hunter Christian Church. In May 2017, she earned her Doctorate of Ministry from Phillips Theological Seminary focusing in Pastoral Leadership in Church and Society/Women in Ministry.

Devon’s life in ministry began in 1998 when she served at Trinity Presbyterian Church, The Colony, Texas, as an Ordained Elder. Most recently she was the minister for University Place Christian Church in Enid. Her work in the life of the Church includes:

Chaplain for Humanity Hospice in Oklahoma City 2016.
Executive Director for Disciples Retirement Community of Oklahoma in 2014 and in 2015 launched Hearts for Care, a resource to assist persons to remain independent in their homes rather than seek out assisted-living or nursing care facilities.
Associate Regional Pastor, Christian Church in Oklahoma, for Health Care Advocacy in 2010-2014.
Chaplain for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Central Christian Church, Director of Children’s Education.
Hunter Christian Church.

Devon’s life prior to ministry included work in Information Technology. She earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State and attended Cameron University. She held positions as a systems analyst, project leader, team leader, and supervisor.

Rev. Don Heath celebrated 10 years with Edmond Trinity Christian Church. Don’s celebration was held at Edmond Trinity Christian Church on Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Pastor’s Pathway Silent Retreat, Oct. 23-25

The Pastor’s Pathway Silent Retreat for clergy will be held October 23-25 at Red Rock Canyon Methodist Camp in Hinton, OK. Silence begins after worship on Monday, October 23rd afternoon and ends Wednesday, October 25th at 11:00 am. Scriptures and other materials on silence and encouragement are slipped under doors throughout this time of silence. Bring what you would like to do during the silence and snacks to share.

Cost: $165.50 per person. Each person gets their own room. The cost includes dinner on Monday, all meals on Tuesday, and breakfast on Wednesday. All linens are provided.

Regional Minister, Pam Holt and Associate Regional Minister, Leslie Dotson officiated the ceremony. The Rev. Dr. Stephanie Crowder, co-pastor of Park Manor CC in Chicago, IL gave the sermon.

You’re Invited to A Gathering of Retired Ministers Sept. 19, 2017

You are invited to a gathering of retired ministers on September 19, 2017 in Norman, which includes a tour of the National Weather Center, lunch, and a meeting to talk about participation in the Regional Communications Network.

The day will begin with a 90 minute tour of the National Weather Center (located at 120 David L. Boren Blvd #2400, Norman) at 10am and is limited to 35 people. The tour will be filled with the first 35 people to respond to this invitation. Spouses are welcome.

Immediately following the tour, we will reconvene in the patio section at Rudy’s BBQ located on Highway 9 at 3450 Chautauqua Ave, Norman.

Following lunch, we will head over to First Christian Church Norman located at 220 S. Webster Ave, Norman, (3.4 miles from Rudy’s) to review details of the networking plan for the Regional Communications Network.

If you choose to forego the tour and/or lunch you are still welcome to meet at FCC Norman around 12:45pm.

Urgent Response Needed: Pension Fund Releases Important Information About Healthcare Zones

The Pension Fund is moving forward with the concept of Healthcare Zones for Disciples of Christ pastors and church employees across the US. Please note: this is not a restart of Churchwide Healthcare. Through Gravie, Healthcare Zones will be created across the US. The only way this can be effective is for pastors and church employees to express their interest by sending an e-mail to healthcare@pensionfund.org by August 15th.

If you think you might have need for healthcare, or different healthcare for 2018, please read the letter Zones Communication July 17 2017 from the Pension Fund for more information, and if interested, please send an e-mail to healthcare@pensionfund.org.

From your interest, you will be sent an e-mail to complete additional information. This is not a commitment; it is the only way to create the zones and assess the premiums. If you have any questions, please contact your Regional Minister or the Pension Fund.

Summer Ordinations and Commissions

Please join us in congratulating Tom Stanley and John Wheeler on their ordinations and Randy Martin on his commissioning.

Tom Stanley was ordained May 21, 2017 at First Christian Church Cherokee. Tom completed his Masters of Divinity from Phillips Seminary, Tulsa.

John Wheeler was ordained May, 28 2017 at Central Christian Church in Enid. John completed his Masters of Divinity from Phillips Seminary, Tulsa.

Randy Martin was commissioned June 4, 2017 at Mustang Christian Church, Mustang. Randy completed the Region’s Commissioned Minister Training Program.

Jesse Jackson Receives Advocacy Award

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jr. was honored by the Oklahoma Conference of Churches as the recipient of the OCC 2017 Advocacy Award. Presented at the 34th Annual Day at the Legislature on March 6, 2017, the program focused on “Advocating Justice for the Poor and the Environment.”

The Advocacy Award is presented to persons who have provided outstanding service in advocating for issues of social justice on behalf of the churches and the Interfaith community.

Rev. Jackson is the pastor of East Sixth Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Oklahoma City, OK.

A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Rev. Jackson received his Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, in addition to pastoral ministry, he also became a classroom teacher at the Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School; he is now employed with Oklahoma City Public Schools.
